Pediatric Surgery Tour

Alex Schmidt being admitted for surgery at the Admissions desk by the Emergency Room. Her Mother is with her. You may bring your favorite toy or blanket with you if you want.

Alex is being admitted to the outpatient surgery area. She is wearing the hospital pajamas. She has a surgery color book and stickers that the nurses gave her when she arrived. We have a few toys that you may play with while you are at the hospital.

It is now time for Alex to go to the operating room. She will ride in this wagon. If you do not want to ride in the wagon you may walk, be carried, or ride on a cart. When you go to the operating room, Mom and Dad will wait for you in the waiting room.

Alex is now in the operating room. This is where she will take a nap while the Doctor does the operation. You can see the mask that she will breathe into. You may notice unfamiliar equipment in the operating room. These are tools the Doctors and Nurses use to take care of you. The Doctors and Nurses will wear covers over their heads in this special area. Sometimes they wear masks over their faces too.

Alex is in the wake-up room where she will stay for a short time after surgery. She will have a special nurse stay with her in this room. There is a rocker in this room if you want the nurse to rock you.

Alex has had her surgery and she is now back where she began. Once she eats and drinks and feels a little better she may go home.
